Origin country

One of the earliest documented sites of coffee cultivation and trade, historically central to coffee's spread to the rest of the world via the port of Mocha (see CoffeeHQ's early-coffee-history article) — a history distinct from, though closely linked to, Ethiopia's role as the species' origin. Yemeni coffee is traditionally grown on steep, hand-built mountain terraces, often at high altitude, using drought-adapted local landrace varieties rather than the small number of internationally standardised varieties grown in most other origins. Production volumes are modest by global standards and have been further constrained by difficult growing conditions and instability.
