Tarrazú
Tarrazú is a canton of Costa Rica's Los Santos zone and, as a coffee name, a protected one. 'Tarrazú', for coffee, was added to the geographical indications protected under the European Union's agreement with Central America by a decision of the agreement's Association Council of 23 June 2022, which the European Commission had approved for the Union that May. A Spanish government bulletin reports that Costa Rica recognised a denomination of origin in 2019 covering three cantons, Tarrazú, Dota and León Cortés, administered by a regulating council; CoffeeHQ has not read that registration or its rules. On the national coffee institute's figures, as the USDA attaché reports them, Tarrazú was the country's highest-producing canton for seven seasons running to 2023/24. Nothing is said here about altitude, varieties or cup.
