Backflushing does nothing on my machine
Fitting a blind basket and running the pump produces no flush, no release into the drip tray, and no visible cleaning.
Applies to: Espresso machine, Espresso
Safety note
Never improvise a backflush on a machine whose manual does not describe one, and never use a descaler in place of a cleaning detergent — an acid in the group can damage seals.
Likely causes and adjustments
Try one adjustment at a time so you know what actually changed the result. Start with the first cause below — if it doesn't help, reveal the next.
Cause 1 of 3 · Commonly the cause
The machine has no three-way solenoid valve
Does your manual describe a backflushing procedure?
This is the usual answer and it is not a fault. Backflushing works by releasing trapped pressure back through the shower screen; with no valve there is nowhere for the water to go. Clean the group by brushing and flushing instead, and soak the baskets and portafilter in an espresso cleaning detergent.
