Origin country

A producer of both arabica and robusta, grown mainly in the Western Ghats (Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu), often under a distinctive shade-grown system intercropped with pepper, areca or other crops rather than in open sun. India is also notable for monsooned coffee, a deliberate process in which green beans are exposed to monsoon humidity to change their character before roasting (see CoffeeHQ's processing coverage for more on humidity- and moisture-driven processing choices).
