Whether a tip can be removed for cleaning, and how, varies by machine. Follow the machine's own instructions rather than a general procedure.
Why it works this way
This is the shortest technique on the site and the one with the best ratio of effort to consequence. Milk left on a wand bakes on within minutes and dries inside the tip holes where no cloth reaches. A blocked tip delivers uneven steam, which makes texturing unpredictable, and residue inside a warm wand is a hygiene matter rather than an aesthetic one. Purge, wipe, purge again — as a single reflex tied to putting the jug down.

How to do it
Wipe the wand with a damp cloth kept only for that purpose, immediately after steaming.
A cloth used for anything else puts what it was used for onto the wand.
Purge steam briefly into the drip tray.
This clears milk drawn up into the tip as the steam stopped, which is where blockages start.
Soak the tip periodically in a milk-system cleaner, following the product's instructions.
Wiping and purging handle the daily residue; soaking handles what accumulates regardless.

Change: Soak the tip in milk-system cleaner and, if the manufacturer's instructions describe it, remove and clean the tip.
