Origin country

The world's largest coffee producer by a wide margin, and has held that position for close to two centuries — coffee expanded across Brazil through the 19th century on the back of large-scale, often flatter estates, historically worked first by enslaved labour and later by waves of immigrant labour, a documented history covered in CoffeeHQ's colonial-cultivation and modern-labour history articles rather than repeated here. Brazil grows both arabica and robusta (locally called Conilon, concentrated in Espírito Santo), and its terrain suits mechanised and semi-mechanised harvesting in a way few other major origins do, alongside genuine smallholder production in its more mountainous regions. Brazil is not one uniform origin or flavour profile: its growing states differ substantially in altitude, climate, mechanisation and typical processing.
